SESSION 2 - 2nd conditional

We use second conditional to talk about a hypothetical situation or to give advice.

If + Past simple ......................would + verb
...............................................wouldn’t + verb
(condition) .................................(result)

If you were a Babongo, you would hunt with bow and arrow
If I had enough money, I would travel to Anuta

--> Notice that if the condition verb is TO BE, we use WERE with all personal pronouns
If I were rich, I would travel to Anuta
If I were you, I wouldn’t go to the park

SESSION 2 - 1st conditional

The LUCKY CHARMS & THE CURSE
These are the sentences from the MASTER CHIEF in regards to the lucky charms & the curse

If the whole tribe can say the sentence together,
--> this tribe will get a lucky charm.
If you fail to do this task in 3 minutes,
--> you will be cursed (ha,ha,ha!)
If you take the magic candle,
--> your ancestors will protect you for 10 years.
If you take the magic candle,
--> your people and your animals will grow healthily.
--> your people and your animals won’t be ill.
If you take the magic shell,
-->the sea will be grateful to you.
If you take the magic shell,
-->you will fish endlessly for 3 years.
If you take the magic seed,
-->the soil will be grateful to you.
If you take the magic seed,
-->you will be able to grow plants anywhere.
If you get the curse,
-->you will have to do double homework for next day

We use first conditional to talk about a result that will occur in the future - if the condition takes place:

If + Present simple --> will+ verb
.................................. won’t + verb

(condition).................... (result)

SESSION 1 - homework - vocabulary in context

Pay attention to new words in their context.
In red, you have the answers from Session 1 homework.
Try to remember the pictures we used in class:

When inside the chief’s hut, people must crawl; standing up and being higher than the chief is very badly thought of.

Due to its remote geographical location, Anuta's environment, traditions and culture have been well preserved.

When the Anutas catch shark, they cut off the fins and dry them.

Coconut leaves are also used to thatch roofs and cover canoes, and they can be woven to make mats, fans and baskets.

The church is believed to be responsible for protecting the island and its population from harm (such as epidemics, droughts and other natural disasters).

Traditionally hunting was done with traps and snares.

The reindeers are used to pull sledges that carry the people and their camp.

The migration pattern depends on seasons and on sustainability of lichen pastures on which the reindeer feed.

A blizzard is a severe snowstorm with high winds.

The clay is a sticky impermeable earth that can be moulded when wet and baked to make bricks and pottery. Some tribes use it as a face painting material.

A drought is a prolonged period of abnormally low rainfall; a shortage of water.

In tribes, women spend long hours grinding the manioc to turn it into a sort of flour.

An ancestor is a person, typically one more remote than a grandparent, from whom one is descended.

When you carve a hard material you cut into it or shape it produce an object or design.

The Babongos use bows and arrows to catch large preys and often the arrows are tipped with poison.
